Tina Pashumati James warmly invites you to join her for her Ashtanga Vinyasa 5-Day Immersion.

This course can also be used as personal development, advanced training, a foundation course or as the required 30 hour pre-teacher training for those who wish to take their teacher training course at a later stage in India with Tina. 

Requirements to join:
- A passion for yoga
- A desire to deepen your own practice
- A daily yoga practice
- A minimum of 12 months practicing yoga, any style, with a qualified teacher

Course Schedule : 

Day 1 : Check in, arrival and introductions - each person introduces themselves and where they come from and what brought them to the Training program. Kriya, Meditation, Asana, Pranayama, and Savasana. Chanting, Patanjali’s sutras exploration.  What are Vinyasa,  bandhas and meditation?

Day 2 :  Meditation, Kriya, Pranayama, Asana. Lecture - practical Vinyasa Krama.  Yoga assists for cancer patients. Drumming healing, Animal Totem meditation.

Day 3 : Meditation partners work, Kriya, Pranayama, Asana, The 8 limbs of yoga and vegetarian peace diet. Yoga & vegetarianism lecture and discussion based on the book Yoga and vegetarianism; start by showing a short film on this. Savasana assists and shamanic druming.

Day 4  : All you need is love, Bija meditation. Asana Chakras, Nadis, chakra tuning class jivamukti style. Inversions, practical Asanas.  Handstands the theory and practical,   Vinyasa 5 keys and the 4 steps to strict vinyasa, music used or metronome. Yin postures for cancer.

Day 5 : 108 AUM Meditation , class based on Kleshas, Asana, Pranayama,  The art of sequencing, ethics of Yoga teachers. mental health issues and how yoga can help, deep listening technics Nada Yoga. Satsang, Arati ceremony to end.

Required Reading:

This is a 25 hour program and there will be one book report required - The journey home: Autobioraphy of an American Swami by Radhanath Swami OR Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda. Read the whole book (either one) and write one paragraph (no longer than 250 words) describing something you learned from the book. Head up your paragraph with the title of the book and your name. Write your commentary as if it were to be given as a spiritual teaching in a yoga class you would teach. The purpose of the exercise is to see that you have read the book and reflected on it. Do not use direct quotations from the book or from any other source, except at most a very brief level if absolutely necessary to make your point. Please give to Tina on the first day of the training.

About Tina:

An internationally recognised pioneer in yoga and traditional yoga therapy, Tina Pashumati James has been changing people’s lives for nearly 30 years. Loka Yoga in Whistler and The Nook in Brackendale are Tina’s own yoga studios. 

By teaching asana, pranayama, mantra, and activism, Tina teaches yoga from an intuitive and highly developed understanding of the human body and psyche.  With her meticulous guidance, Tina’s goal is ultimate freedom and liberation for students, notwithstanding the activism that a person will feel and the will to want to serve.

Tina has generated extensive worldwide media coverage as one of Manju Jois’ Ashtanga yoga teachers, though she also studied with Shri K Pattabhi Jois in the early days. Sharon Gannon and David Life, founders of Jivamukti Yoga, asked her to mentor twice in 2008 and 2012; Tina sat on the advanced board with them in New York. “Sharon inspired me to be radical truth seeker”, cites Pashumati. She is  grateful to Shyamdas, her Bhakti Teacher, and Manorama, her Sanskrit Teacher too and Tina also studied Georg Feuerstein’s 800 hour philosophy programme.  

Pashumati has created many new programmes and is especially passionate about Love your Cancer: Yoga and meditation with the Green Moustache in Canada, working with the plant-based Gerson Therapy for healing Cancer. Nada yoga is used for Cancer patients, which entails also Vedic hymns and first nation songs.

Tina Pashumati has extensive study and clinical application of healing modalities in yoga, including sound and shamanic ceremonies. She enjoyed working with her friend and teacher Danny Paradise, who uses shamanism and Ashtanga. Tina is also a ski patrol medic, death doula and wedding facilitator. She has an unceasing pursuit of serving animals and protecting the oceans, and has been a lifelong vegan. Undertaking studies in sweat lodge, vision quest and sundance with first nations elders, Pashumati is just about to receive her first pipe. She loves to be with her elders, studying plant medicine and ancient ceremonies and is also spending the next four years sundancing to serve herself and pray for a consecutiveness to all things.

Other notable personal achievements include high altitude mountaineer work, helpijg young people with severe learning difficulties, running numerous marathons, setting up the first climbing wall in England and being on the UK show Gladiators. However, it is worth noting that all these feats do not warrant as much importance for Tina as radiating light and love.

Though Tina continues to teach throughout the year around the world, her heart is always with the animals. Yoga is renowned as an intensely physical, philosophical, internally focused spiritual practice that emphasizes self-awareness, devotion (bhakti), non-harming (ahimsa), and has the ability to shift one’s perception by means of breathing. It is therefore magic, a transformative experience off the mat and into the environment. The “wild child” of yoga, Tina’s passion is to live in the present moment and be an extreme adventurer. She says, “Spontaneity is the best kind of adventure,” and works tirelessly to protect the bears and their environment, the oceans and forests.

Her lineage:

Tina's first teacher was Ann Hobdell a brilliant student of Derick Island,and John Scott, she shared with Tina Ashtanga Yoga, Tina had been practicing  Yoga for several years before this time to keep her body and mind healthy, she really had no idea what she was doing just loved the feeling she had after breathing and moving consciously. 

Shri K Pattabhi Jois and Manju jois became her teachers She studied and read as much as she could about all the old scripturers, She loved their truth and discipline and the fact that she could learn from Father and son who had lived Yoga and wanted it to be a gateway to Freedom. she attended Shri Pattabhi Jois home Ashram in Mysore for many years, and her last trip there was for his  90 birthday in Mysore, she travelled there to be with this incredible Teacher, and learn as much from him as she could, he was Humble, and quite brilliant, and a master in all aspects. 

Tina’s later  beloved teachers, Sharon Gannon and David Life (the founders of Jivamukti), have a direct lineage to Shri Brahmanada Sarasvati, Shri, Swami Nirmalanananda and Shri K Pattabhi jois. Tina forever thanks them and Shyam Das, her beloved Bhakti Teacher; not forgetting Manorama, her sanskrit Teacher for the past 12 years, and Danny Paradise, her good friend and a fellow Ashtanga teacher.

Jivamukti Floating
Saturday 30th March 2019

Learn some of the trickier yoga poses and find a way to get into poses you thought were out of reach from the experienced Tina Pashumati James.

This will be a fun-filled exploration of Vinyasa and Arm-balances.

One of the greatest challenges of Ashtanga and Jivamukti flow is the vinyasa, the law of lightness. In this class Tina will explore techniques for creating greater lightness and efficiency of practice while using less effort to achieve greater ease.

The class will also explore the elements of handstands and arm-balances. It is common to feel intimidated or even frightened by balancing on our hands. Tina will share wonderful methods of approach to allow for greater confidence.

There is always plenty of laughter and fun care of Alan Watts meditation, as well as a 30 year wealth of Yoga learning from Tina.

All levels may attend even if you have never done or attempted a handstand before, Tina will support you every step of the way.

Jivamukti - What is Real?

Want to move, let off steam, have fun? This is the evening for you!

This is a journey of dance with Tina Pashumati James and friends. An evening of togetherness and moving to live sound.

There will be drumming, rattles and music - Yoga at its wildest! Be part of a collaborative experience of Yogis feeding and being fed by the dance and energy from the room. 

Tina will start the class off with slow music and ambient sounds inviting a gentle warm up for our bodies in the sun salutations. Then move into downtempo songs and grooves, building up to a catharsis boosted by drums, then returning to downtempo/chill vibe and ending with an ambient sound integration “The best Savasana " to end our journey together. 

This will be an intense practice.
